1

Find the thesis

introduction → position

The speaker's main claim opens the text.

2

Concession signal

صَحِيحٌ أَنَّ → a conceded point

Signals a point the speaker concedes.

3

Refutation signal

غَيْرَ أَنَّ → the stronger point

The speaker's real position follows.

1
Argument speech has a predictable shape

An argumentative speaker moves through the same shape every time: thesis → evidence → concession (صَحِيحٌ أَنَّ) → refutation (غَيْرَ أَنَّ) → conclusion (وَبِنَاءً عَلَى مَا سَبَقَ). Once you hear صَحِيحٌ أَنَّ, you know a concession is coming and the stronger point follows soon after — so you can keep up even when a few words slip past.

2
صَحِيحٌ أَنَّ signals conceding, not asserting

A common Paper 1 trap tests whether you understand that صَحِيحٌ أَنَّ introduces a point the speaker is conceding, not their own conclusion. The speaker's real position arrives after غَيْرَ أَنَّ. Attribute the conceded point to the other side, and the refuted point to the speaker.

صَحِيحٌ أَنَّ concedes the other side's point; the speaker's view follows غَيْرَ أَنَّ.

لَوْ with a لَـ result signals a counterfactual, not a real plan.
