آكُلُ وَأَشْرَبُ مَعَ الوَجَبَاتِ وَحَرْفِ الجَرِّ فِي
The lesson-plan grammar focus is choosing the correct action—آكُلُ for food and أَشْرَبُ for drink—then locating the action at a meal with فِي.
What does the structure communicate?
Which word or ending changes?
What must match the noun or person?
Can you use it with new vocabulary?
Use فِي + the meal.
أَتَنَاوَلُ can introduce the whole meal.
Time phrases can come at the end or beginning.
Use تَأْكُلِينَ when addressing a female.
آكُلُ + طَعَامًا · أَشْرَبُ + شَرَابًا
Use آكُلُ with solid food and أَشْرَبُ with drinks.
فِي الفُطُورِ / فِي الغَدَاءِ / فِي العَشَاءِ
Use فِي before the meal when you mean “at/for breakfast, lunch or dinner”.
مَاذَا تَأْكُلُ...؟ / مَاذَا تَأْكُلِينَ...؟
The verb ending changes for a female listener.
أَتَنَاوَلُ + الوَجْبَةَ
أَتَنَاوَلُ means “I have/eat” a meal and is useful in more formal descriptions.
| Meaning | Food action | Drink action |
|---|---|---|
| I | آكُلُ | أَشْرَبُ |
| you (m) | تَأْكُلُ | تَشْرَبُ |
| you (f) | تَأْكُلِينَ | تَشْرَبِينَ |
| he | يَأْكُلُ | يَشْرَبُ |
| she | تَأْكُلُ | تَشْرَبُ |
A meal description needs more than a food list. Add the meal, a verb and a time phrase so that the listener knows when the action happens.
The verb أَتَنَاوَلُ is useful in formal Modern Standard Arabic for “I have/eat a meal”. Keep آكُلُ and أَشْرَبُ secure first, then use أَتَنَاوَلُ to vary language.
