One ending can change the whole description
Arabic descriptions sound accurate when the noun and adjective agree. This pattern will return in family, home, school, colours and clothing.

Find the gender clue in the nounاِبْحَثْ عَنْ دَلِيلِ التَّذْكِيرِ وَالتَّأْنِيثِ
Most nouns ending in ة are feminine. It is a powerful clue, but some feminine words do not carry it.
Learn all eight masculine/feminine pairs
These words are part of the lesson's active vocabulary. Read each pair aloud, notice whether the feminine form adds ة, and use every pair again in the activities below.

التَّاءُ المَرْبُوطَةُ — ة
At the end of many nouns, ة signals feminine gender: طَالِبَةٌ، مُعَلِّمَةٌ، زَمِيلَةٌ، طِفْلَةٌ.
Some feminine nouns have no ة
The ending is a clue, not the complete rule. Learn the active exceptions أُمٌّ، بِنْتٌ، أُخْتٌ and recognise the additional examples below.

Make two decisions: first choose the noun’s gender; then give the adjective the same gender.
طَالِبٌ+جَدِيدٌ
هَذَا طَالِبٌ جَدِيدٌ.
This is a new male student.طَالِبَةٌ+جَدِيدَةٌ
هَذِهِ طَالِبَةٌ جَدِيدَةٌ.

كِتَابٌ جَدِيدٌ means “a new book”. Arabic does not normally place the adjective before the noun.
هَذَا and هَذِهِ also match
Use هَذَا with a masculine singular noun and هَذِهِ with a feminine singular noun.

For these regular pairs, the feminine form normally adds ة. Keep قَدِيمٌ / قَدِيمَةٌ mainly for things and use كَبِيرٌ / كَبِيرَةٌ for big or older people.
