Add nationality and language to your introduction أَضِفِ الجِنْسِيَّةَ وَاللُّغَةَ إِلَى تَعْرِيفِكَ بِنَفْسِكَ

You already know how to give your name and age. Now build a fuller identity profile.

Why this matters

Identity information connects people

Nationality and languages help you understand someone’s background and continue a respectful first conversation.

By the end, I can…
  • state a nationality with the correct masculine or feminine form;
  • say which languages I speak, understand, read and write;
  • recognise identity details in short listening and reading texts;
  • create and present a simple Arabic identity card.

Memory rule

Listen for the ending

ـِيٌّ usually describes one male person. ـِيَّةٌ usually describes one female person.

Common mistake

Do not choose from your own gender

The nationality ending describes the person in the sentence. A girl says أَنَا مِصْرِيَّةٌ; a boy says أَنَا مِصْرِيٌّ.
