Exam conditions

Before you begin

Paper 2 Reading is about 45 minutes for 45 marks; Paper 4 Writing is 60 minutes for 30 marks (Q1 in about 20, Q2 in about 35, with 5 to check).

Work silently, without notes. Prove every reading answer from the text; write both Paper 4 answers to length in the correct register.

Task

Write a formal email (130–140 words) to your school principal proposing a new after-school club. Include: the idea, why it is needed, what it requires, and a request for approval. Register: formal.

  • A formal opening and closing.
  • The idea, the need, what it requires, and a request.
  • At least one subjunctive trigger and one conditional.
  • Correct register from the opening sentence.

Paper 4 · Q2 — Extended writing (15 marks)

Task

Choose ONE title and write an argumentative essay (130–150 words): (A) “السَّفَرُ أَفْضَلُ مُعَلِّمٍ — هَلْ تُوَافِقُ؟” (B) “المُدُنُ الكُبْرَى أَفْضَلُ لِلْعَيْشِ مِنَ القُرَى — هَلْ تُوَافِقُ؟” (C) “عَلَى الشَّبَابِ أَنْ يَخْدُمُوا مُجْتَمَعَهُمْ قَبْلَ أَنْفُسِهِمْ — هَلْ تُوَافِقُ؟”

  • A clear thesis and cited evidence.
  • A concession (صَحِيحٌ أَنَّ) and a refutation (غَيْرَ أَنَّ).
  • A conditional and a subjunctive trigger.
  • A conclusion connector with a subjunctive; 130–150 words.
