Exam conditions

Before you speak

التَّهَيُّؤُ الذِّهْنِيُّ

Sit quietly for a moment. Bring to mind the Arabic sentence you are most proud of — proof of what you can do — then show the examiner that sentence and the many like it.

Paper 3 is about 12 minutes: a role play (about 5 minutes, 10 marks) and a topic conversation (about 7 minutes, 20 marks). Record yourself if you can, and self-mark against the scheme.

Role play — 10 marks

Communication (6): one mark per prompt successfully addressed.
Accuracy (4): overall language accuracy across the role play.

Topic conversation — 20 marks

Communication (15): 5 per question — develop with opinion, reason and example.
Quality of Language (5): consistent complex structures — tenses, conditionals, subjunctives.

Examiner note

Give credit to yourself for any correct trigger or conditional even if a vowel is imperfect in spontaneous speech — consistent use of complex structures is the realistic top-band standard.

Part 1 — Role play (10 marks)

Introduce yourself and your interests.
اسْأَلْ عَنِ الأَنْشِطَةِ المُتَاحَةِ.
Ask about the available activities.
اقْتَرِحْ نَشَاطًا جَدِيدًا وَاشْرَحْ فَائِدَتَهُ (مُسَبِّبُ نَصْبٍ).
Suggest a new activity and explain its benefit (subjunctive trigger).
اتَّفِقْ عَلَى مَوْعِدِ التَّسْجِيلِ (شَرْطٌ).
