Repairing the P4 error zones

إِصْلَاحُ أَخْطَاءِ السَّنَةِ التَّاسِعَةِ الشَّائِعَةِ

Targeted error correction across the spine: the subjunctive fatḥa after every trigger, the Type 2 لَـ result, the past verb after لَوْ, and the disaster passives.

1Meaning

What does the structure communicate?

2Form

Which word or ending changes?

3Agreement

What must match the noun or person?

4Transfer

Can you use it with new vocabulary?

نَسْتَثْمِرُ فِي الطَّاقَةِ النَّظِيفَةِ لِكَيْ نَحْمِيَ الأَجْيَالَ القَادِمَةَ
What to notice

Purpose: لِكَي + fatḥa.

يَتَطَلَّبُ الأَمْرُ أَنْ نُخَصِّصَ مِيزَانِيَّاتٍ أَكْبَرَ لِلْبِيئَةِ
What to notice

Necessity: يَتَطَلَّبُ أَنْ + fatḥa.

لَوْ بَدَأْنَا التَّحَوُّلَ مُبَكِّرًا، لَكَانَتْ بِيئَتُنَا أَفْضَلَ
What to notice

Type 2: لَوْ + past → لَـ.

1

Subjunctive after a trigger

لِكَيْ / أَنْ + فَتْحَةٌ

Every subjunctive verb keeps its final fatḥa.

لِكَيْ نَحْمِيَ الأَجْيَالَيَنْبَغِي أَنْ نَسْتَثْمِرَ فِي الطَّاقَةِ
2

Type 2 result

لَوْ + past → لَـ + past

The result verb carries a لَـ prefix.

لَوْ بَدَأْنَا مُبَكِّرًا، لَنَجَحْنَا
3

Past verb after لَوْ

لَوْ + past (not present)

لَوْ is followed by a past-tense verb.

لَوِ اسْتَثْمَرْنَا (not لَوْ نَسْتَثْمِرُ)
4

Disaster passive

دُمِّرَتْ · أُجْلِيَ · أُعْلِنَتْ

The passive of a reported disaster is fixed in shape.

1
The three highest-frequency P4 slips

First, dropping the subjunctive fatḥa: لِكَي نَحْمِي should be لِكَي نَحْمِيَ, and أَنْ نَسْتَثْمِرُ should be أَنْ نَسْتَثْمِرَ. Second, a Type 2 result without the لَـ: لَوْ بَدَأْنَا، نَجَحْنَا should be لَوْ بَدَأْنَا، لَنَجَحْنَا. Third, a broken passive: يُدَمَّرَتْ should be دُمِّرَتْ.

2
Answer each question with the trigger it invites

A why question invites لِكَي (لِكَي نَحْمِيَ …). A يَتَطَلَّبُ question invites a necessity subjunctive (يَتَطَلَّبُ الأَمْرُ أَنْ نُخَصِّصَ …). A لَوْ question invites a Type 2 (لَوْ كَانَ لَدَيَّ … لَـ …). Matching the answer to the trigger is what earns the quality-of-language mark.

Accuracy repair workshop

Strong learners do not only recognise an error: they identify the system and repair it.

نَسْتَثْمِرُ فِي الطَّاقَةِ لِكَيْ نَحْمِي البِيئَةَ.

نَسْتَثْمِرُ فِي الطَّاقَةِ لِكَيْ نَحْمِيَ البِيئَةَ.

After لِكَي the verb takes a final fatḥa: نَحْمِيَ.

يَتَطَلَّبُ الأَمْرُ أَنْ نُخَصِّصُ مِيزَانِيَّةً.

يَتَطَلَّبُ الأَمْرُ أَنْ نُخَصِّصَ مِيزَانِيَّةً.

After أَنْ the verb is subjunctive: نُخَصِّصَ.

لَوْ بَدَأْنَا مُبَكِّرًا، نَجَحْنَا فِي حِمَايَةِ البِيئَةِ.

لَوْ بَدَأْنَا مُبَكِّرًا، لَنَجَحْنَا فِي حِمَايَةِ البِيئَةِ.

A Type 2 result takes the لَـ prefix.
