Repairing the P2 error zones

إِصْلَاحُ أَخْطَاءِ السَّنَةِ العَاشِرَةِ الشَّائِعَةِ

Targeted error correction across the five structures: إِنَّ/أَنَّ, reported pronouns, كَانَ agreement, the verb after قَدْ, and the لَـ of the Type 2 result.

1Meaning

What does the structure communicate?

2Form

Which word or ending changes?

3Agreement

What must match the noun or person?

4Transfer

Can you use it with new vocabulary?

قَالَ أُسْتَاذِي إِنَّنِي مُؤَهَّلٌ، وَأَكَّدَ أَنَّ اجْتِهَادِي سَيُثْمِرُ
What to notice

إِنَّ after قَالَ, أَنَّ after أَكَّدَ.

كُنْتُ قَدْ أَنْهَيْتُ بَحْثِي قَبْلَ أَنْ أَلْتَحِقَ بِالجَامِعَةِ
What to notice

Past-perfect agreement and past verb after قَدْ.

لَوْ كَانَتْ ظُرُوفِي مُخْتَلِفَةً، لَتَغَيَّرَ مَسَارِي
What to notice

Type 2: لَوْ + past → لَـ + past.

1

إِنَّ vs أَنَّ

قَالَ إِنَّ · (غَيْرُهُ) أَنَّ

Only قَالَ takes إِنَّ.

قَالَ إِنَّ التَّعْلِيمَ حَقٌّأَكَّدَ أَنَّ المَنَاهِجَ تَتَطَوَّرُ
2

Past-perfect agreement

كَانَ / كَانَتْ + قَدْ + past

كَانَ agrees with the subject; the verb after قَدْ is past.

كَانَتْ قَدْ حَصَلَتْ عَلَى مِنْحَةٍكُنْتُ قَدْ أَنْهَيْتُ بَحْثِي
3

Type 1 vs Type 2 result

إِذَا … سَـ · لَوْ … لَـ

A Type 1 result takes سَـ; a Type 2 result takes لَـ.

إِذَا دَرَسْتَ، سَتَنْجَحُلَوْ دَرَسْتَ، لَنَجَحْتَ
4

Academic verb complements

يَتَفَوَّقُ فِي · يُؤَهِّلُ لِـ

Each academic verb keeps its own preposition.

1
The three highest-frequency P2 slips

First, قَالَ أَنَّ instead of قَالَ إِنَّ. Second, كَانَ / كَانَتْ failing to agree with the subject, or a present verb after قَدْ. Third, a Type 2 result without the لَـ: لَوْ دَرَسَ، نَجَحَ should be لَوْ دَرَسَ، لَنَجَحَ.

2
Produce the required structure without being asked

In the topic conversation, some questions require a specific structure: Q2 the past perfect, Q3 reported speech, Q5 a Type 2 conditional. The mark comes from producing it spontaneously: لَوْ كَانَتْ ظُرُوفِي مُخْتَلِفَةً، لَتَغَيَّرَ مَسَارِي. Rehearse until it is automatic.

Accuracy repair workshop

Strong learners do not only recognise an error: they identify the system and repair it.

قَالَ أَنَّ التَّعْلِيمَ مُهِمٌّ.

قَالَ إِنَّ التَّعْلِيمَ مُهِمٌّ.

Only قَالَ takes إِنَّ.

كَانَتْ قَدْ ذَهَبَ إِلَى الجَامِعَةِ.

كَانَتْ قَدْ ذَهَبَتْ إِلَى الجَامِعَةِ.

The verb after قَدْ must agree with the feminine subject.

لَوْ عَمِلَ بِجِدٍّ، نَجَحَ.

لَوْ عَمِلَ بِجِدٍّ، لَنَجَحَ.

A Type 2 result takes the لَـ prefix.
