يَقُولُ الطَّالِبُ: بِحُلُولِ نِهَايَةِ الثَّانَوِيَّةِ، كُنْتُ قَدْ قَرَّرْتُ دِرَاسَةَ الهَنْدَسَةِ، وَكُنْتُ قَدْ حَصَلْتُ عَلَى خِبْرَةٍ عَمَلِيَّةٍ فِي البَرْمَجَةِ. قَالَ مُرْشِدِي إِنَّنِي مُؤَهَّلٌ، وَأَكَّدَ أَنَّ اجْتِهَادِي سَيُثْمِرُ. إِذَا قُبِلْتُ فِي الجَامِعَةِ الَّتِي أُرِيدُهَا، سَأَتَخَصَّصُ فِي الطَّاقَةِ المُتَجَدِّدَةِ. وَلَوْ تَوَافَرَتْ لِي مَوَارِدُ أَفْضَلُ مُبَكِّرًا، لَكُنْتُ قَدْ تَقَدَّمْتُ أَسْرَعَ. وَأَشَارَ تَقْرِيرٌ إِلَى أَنَّ نِسْبَةَ القَبُولِ فِي هٰذَا المَجَالِ تَبْلُغُ سِتِّينَ بِالْمِئَةِ. أَرَى أَنَّ ضَغْطَ الامْتِحَانَاتِ كَبِيرٌ، لٰكِنَّهُ يَدْفَعُنِي إِلَى العَمَلِ. وَسَوْفَ أُسْهِمُ فِي مَجَالِي بَعْدَ التَّخَرُّجِ.

سَامِي: كَانَ العَالَمُ العَرَبِيُّ قَدْ أَسَّسَ أَرْقَى الأَنْظِمَةِ التَّعْلِيمِيَّةِ فِي العَصْرِ الذَّهَبِيِّ. لَيْلَى: أَتَّفِقُ، وَأَشَارَ المُؤَرِّخُونَ إِلَى أَنَّ دَارَ الحِكْمَةِ كَانَتْ قَدِ اسْتَقْطَبَتْ عُلَمَاءَ كَثِيرِينَ. سَامِي: لٰكِنَّ الإِصْلَاحَ اليَوْمَ ضَرُورِيٌّ؛ فَبَعْضُ المَنَاطِقِ تُعَانِي مِنْ أُمِّيَّةٍ. لَيْلَى: وَقَالَ خَبِيرٌ إِنَّ الاِسْتِثْمَارَ فِي المُعَلِّمِ هُوَ الحَلُّ. سَامِي: وَلَوِ اسْتُثْمِرَ مُبَكِّرًا، لَتَغَيَّرَ الوَضْعُ كَثِيرًا. لَيْلَى: وَأَنَا أَرَى أَنَّ تَعْلِيمَ المَرْأَةِ أَوْلَوِيَّةٌ.

Four prompts
- عَرِّفْ بِنَفْسِكَ وَخَلْفِيَّتِكَ التَّعْلِيمِيَّةِ (كُنْتُ قَدْ حَصَلْتُ عَلَى …).
Introduce yourself and your background using the past perfect. - صِفْ مَا قَالَهُ مُعَلِّمُوكَ عَنْكَ (قَالَ أُسْتَاذِي إِنَّنِي …).
Say what your teachers have said about you using reported speech. - قُلْ مَاذَا سَتَدْرُسُ إِنْ قُبِلْتَ (إِذَا قُبِلْتُ، سَـ …).

Mark scheme
Apply these criteria to Question 2 and to the speaking components.
Task completion (TC) — 5 marks
- Education is described with academic vocabulary.
- A past achievement is given with كَانَ قَدْ, and a teacher/expert view with reported speech.
- Both a Type 1 plan and a Type 2 hypothesis are present; 140-155 words, on topic.
Range — 5 marks
- Reported speech with a verb other than قَالَ (e.g. أَشَارَ إِلَى أَنَّ, أَكَّدَ أَنَّ).
- A past perfect with correct agreement, and a Type 1 conditional (إِذَا + past → سَـ).
- A Type 2 conditional (لَوْ + past → لَـ + past) and a formal connector or academic verb.
Accuracy — 5 marks
- إِنَّ after قَالَ, أَنَّ after all other reporting verbs (2 marks).
- كَانَ / كَانَتْ agreement in the past perfect (2 marks).
- The لَـ prefix in the Type 2 result clause (1 mark).
Role play — communication and accuracy — 4 marks
- Communication (2): all four prompts are addressed clearly and relevantly.
- Accuracy (2): prompt 1 uses the past perfect and prompt 2 uses قَالَ إِنَّ, both formed correctly.
- The Type 1 plan in prompt 3 is accurate.
Topic conversation — communication and quality of language — 6 marks
- Communication (3): answers are developed with point, reason and example.
- Quality of language (3): the past perfect (Q1), reported speech (Q2) and a Type 2 conditional (Q3) all appear and are accurate.
- Record whether the candidate produces the Type 2 conditional spontaneously or avoids it.
