Success Criteria

Why this matters in the exam
Measure words are a favourite because they test two skills at once: did you catch the quantity (نِصْفُ كِيلُو or كِيلُو?) AND the item AND the price? A single Listening line like أُرِيدُ نِصْفَ كِيلُو جُبْنٍ بِعِشْرِينَ جُنَيْهًا hides three separate answer boxes. Today you learn to catch all three.
Part 1 · الجُزْءُ الأَوَّلُ
The units — وَحَدَاتُ الوَزْنِ وَالقِيَاسِ
Good news: the big units are old friends wearing Arabic spelling — kilo, gram, litre, metre travelled into Arabic just as they travelled into English. The real stars are the fractions you already own from Lesson 2: نِصْف and رُبُع — half an hour then, half a kilo now.

Lesson 2 returns 🔁
النِّصْفُ and الرُّبُعُ are the same fraction words from telling the time — half past four was الرَّابِعَةُ وَالنِّصْفُ; half a kilo is نِصْفُ كِيلُو. Learn a word once in this course, and it keeps paying you back.

Numbers meet units — الأَعْدَادُ مَعَ الوَحَدَاتِ
Time for the conversions every shopper carries in their head — and for your number rules to shake hands with غْرَام (masculine, like جُنَيْه). Plus one glamorous newcomer: the hundreds, because real gram amounts live in the hundreds.

Real deli orders come in hundreds of grams. Meet the family:

غْرَام plays by the money rules
غْرَام is masculine — so it mirrors جُنَيْه exactly: ثَلَاثَةُ غْرَامَاتٍ (tiny!), خَمْسُونَ غْرَامًا (Rung 3 singular), مِائَةُ غْرَامٍ. If you can count money, you can already weigh gold. ✨

👍 The scale never lies — but the options try to!
1. كِيلُو وَاحِدٌ = how many grams?
✔️ Kilo means a thousand — in Arabic, English and every supermarket on Earth.
2. نِصْفُ كِيلُو = ?
✔️ Half of 1000 = 500g. The 50g trap catches anyone who forgets the extra zero!
3. “100 grams of olives”:
✔️ مِائَةُ غْرَامٍ + the مِنْ pattern. (100 kilos of olives would need a lorry.)
4. 200 grams = ?
✔️ The dual hundred! مِائَتَا = “two hundreds” — the ـَا ending you know from سَنَتَانِ.
5. “50 grams”:
✔️ Rung 3 never sleeps: 11–99 take the singular — غْرَامًا, exactly like جُنَيْهًا and سَنَةً.
6. The recipe needs رُبُعُ كِيلُو مِنَ العِنَبِ. Your scale should read:
✔️ A quarter of 1000 = 250g of grapes. رُبُع = quarter, from the same root as أَرْبَعَة (four)!
