Recognise the pattern and understand the model verb in a sentence.
Form VIII is a widely used family whose verbs can express acquiring, engaging in an action, reflexive meaning or other lexical senses. The actual verb meaning is essential.
Learn the meaning before memorising the pattern.
Recognise the pattern and understand the model verb in a sentence.
Use two or three verbs from this family in accurate past and present sentences.
Notice what changes and what stays connected to the root.
For a regular sound root, Form VIII inserts ت after the first root consonant: اِفْتَعَلَ / يَفْتَعِلُ. Some roots show assimilation or weak-letter changes.
| Past | Present | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| اِكْتَسَبَ | يَكْتَسِبُ | to acquire or gain |
Read each pair aloud, then use the verbs in meaningful sentences.

|---|---|---|
| اِجْتَمَعَ | يَجْتَمِعُ | to meet or gather |

Move from recognising the pattern to using the language yourself.
Do not classify every verb beginning with اِسْتَـ as Form VIII. اِسْتَعْمَلَ is Form X, while اِكْتَسَبَ is Form VIII.
The inserted ت follows the first root consonant ك.
