For a regular sound root, Form VIII inserts ت after the first root consonant: اِفْتَعَلَ / يَفْتَعِلُ. Some roots show assimilation or weak-letter changes.

Notice the relationship: كَسَبَ means to earn or gain; اِكْتَسَبَ means to acquire or gain. The related meaning is useful, but the form cannot be translated by one fixed English prefix.

Look closely: The ت in اِكْتَسَبَ is clearly visible. In اِهْتَمَّ and اِخْتَارَ, root-specific changes make the surface form less transparent. Learn these as complete past–present pairs.
