The gap & the rule
After **أَنْ, لِـ, يَجِبُ أَنْ, أُرِيدُ أَنْ** the imperfect verb becomes **subjunctive** (ends in فَتْحَة: يَذْهَبَ). To negate the **past**, use **لَمْ + jussive** (لَمْ يَذْهَبْ), not the past tense.
