The gap & the rule
Each situation takes a fixed preposition: **بِـ** for means (بِالحَافِلَةِ), **فِي** for time and 'in a place' (فِي السَّابِعَةِ / فِي البَيْتِ), **إِلَى** for direction (إِلَى المَدْرَسَةِ), **مِنْ** for origin, **عَلَى** for 'on'.
