النِّسْبَةُ وَالمَمْنُوعُ مِنَ الصَّرْفِ وَوَصْفُ المِنْطَقَةِ
Three systems carry this lesson: forming the nationality, handling country names that refuse tanwīn, and choosing past or present according to whether you describe history or the present day.
What does the structure communicate?
Which word or ending changes?
What must match the noun or person?
Can you use it with new vocabulary?
The nisba ending carries a shadda on the yāʾ.
A diptote takes a fatḥa in the genitive, with no tanwīn.
A present passive for a fact that is true now.
country + ـِيٌّ (m.) / ـِيَّةٌ (f.)
The ending carries a shadda on the yāʾ. A final tāʾ marbūṭa or article is dropped first.
no tanwīn; fatḥa instead of kasra
A diptote takes a ḍamma when nominative and a fatḥa in both the accusative and the genitive.
نَشَأَتْ / اتَّسَعَ … vs تُهَيْمِنُ / تُعَدُّ …
Use the past for what happened, and the present for what is currently true. Mixing them deliberately is what a strong cultural text does.
فِي بَعْضِ الدُّوَلِ / إِلَى جَانِبِ
Arabic is not the only language of the region. Name co-official languages and qualify claims rather than generalising.
| Country | Nationality (m.) | Note |
|---|---|---|
| مِصْرُ | مِصْرِيٌّ | diptote — no tanwīn |
| لُبْنَانُ | لُبْنَانِيٌّ | diptote — مِنْ لُبْنَانَ |
| المَغْرِبُ | مَغْرِبِيٌّ | regular with the article |
| السُّعُودِيَّةُ | سُعُودِيٌّ | drop the tāʾ marbūṭa first |
Take the country, drop any article or ending, and add ـِيٌّ for a man or ـِيَّةٌ for a woman: مِصْر becomes مِصْرِيٌّ and مِصْرِيَّةٌ. The shadda on the yāʾ is part of the ending, not an optional decoration.
مِصْرُ، لُبْنَانُ، قَطَرُ، عُمَانُ، تُونُسُ and فِلَسْطِينُ take no tanwīn and use a fatḥa where you would expect a kasra: مِنْ مِصْرَ، فِي لُبْنَانَ. Writing مِصْرٍ is a visible error.

Build · transform · justify
The guided builder develops flexible sentence construction. The three independent tasks then test different skills: grammatical transformation, meaning and coherence, and original sentence production.
Combinatorial builder studio
This guided builder accepts 27 accurate combinations. Build 3 different sentences, changing one meaningful chunk each time. Compare the grammar and meaning before moving to the independent tasks.
اِخْتَرْ جُزْءًا مِنْ كُلِّ قَائِمَةٍ.
0/3 different sentences built.
Each clause is accurate on its own, so any three different combinations build a valid description.
Remove the tanwīn from the diptote
Repair the country name after the preposition.أَنَا مِنْ لُبْنَانٍ.
مَمْنُوعٌ مِنَ الصَّرْفِA diptote takes a bare fatḥa in the genitive.
Match the nisba to the noun
Repair the nationality so it agrees with the noun.هِيَ مُعَلِّمَةٌ عُمَانِيٌّ.
مُعَلِّمَة ← ؟A feminine noun takes a feminine nisba.
Correct the claim about language
Rewrite so the sentence reports the region accurately.العَرَبِيَّةُ هِيَ اللُّغَةُ الوَحِيدَةُ فِي كُلِّ الدُّوَلِ العَرَبِيَّةِ.
أَضِفْ دِقَّةًThe region is multilingual, and the accurate sentence names the other languages.

Spot · explain · repair
Strong learners do not only recognise an error: they identify the system and repair it.
أَنَا مِنْ لُبْنَانٍ.
أَنَا مِنْ لُبْنَانَ.
لُبْنَان is a diptote and cannot take tanwīn.
هِيَ طَالِبَةٌ مَغْرِبِيٌّ.
هِيَ طَالِبَةٌ مَغْرِبِيَّةٌ.
The nisba adjective must agree with its feminine noun.
العَرَبِيَّةُ هِيَ اللُّغَةُ الوَحِيدَةُ فِي المِنْطَقَةِ.
إِلَى جَانِبِ العَرَبِيَّةِ تُوجَدُ لُغَاتٌ أُخْرَى مِثْلُ الأَمَازِيغِيَّةِ وَالكُرْدِيَّةِ.
The region is multilingual, so the version on the left states something untrue.
