Build and Extend an Answer اِبْنِ إِجَابَتَكَ وَوَسِّعْهَا

Learn how to answer the question immediately, add useful detail, explain your ideas and keep speaking naturally—without memorising a long speech.

🎙️ Independent speaking ⏱️ 45–75 minutes 🪜 Five-step answer ladder 🔁 Prepare → speak → reflect → retry
01

Orient

Your goal هَدَفُكَ

A successful spoken answer is not necessarily long. It is relevant, understandable and developed enough to show what you can do. This lesson gives you a repeatable structure that works across familiar topics.

Core

Answer the exact question directly in a complete Arabic sentence.

Develop

Add a relevant detail, reason or example rather than repeating the same idea.

Stretch

Move accurately between present, past and future when the question invites it.

By the end You will be able to decode a speaking question, build a purposeful extended answer and complete a timed speak–reflect–retry cycle independently.
02

Diagnostic pre-check

How do you answer now? كَيْفَ تُجِيبُ الْآنَ؟

Choose the response or strategy that communicates most effectively.

Quick diagnostic

Listen to the question in your head, then decide what the speaker really needs to communicate.

1. Which answer responds best to أَيْنَ تَسْكُنُ؟
2. Which answer develops an opinion most effectively?

مَا رَأْيُكَ فِي مَدْرَسَتِكَ؟

3. Which opening matches this question?

مَاذَا فَعَلْتَ فِي نِهَايَةِ الْأُسْبُوعِ الْمَاضِي؟

4. When should you stop extending an answer?
Your score will appear here.
03

Question decoder

Know what the question requires اِفْهَمِ الْمَطْلُوبَ أَوَّلًا

Before you speak, identify four things: the question word, the topic, the time frame and the number of details requested.

1Question wordWho, what, where, when, why or how?
2TopicWhat area of your life must you discuss?
3TimePast, usual present, current situation or future?
4PartsIs there one question or several linked prompts?
Decode this question Practice task

مَاذَا فَعَلْتَ فِي عُطْلَةِ نِهَايَةِ الْأُسْبُوعِ الْمَاضِي؟ وَمَعَ مَنْ؟ وَمَا رَأْيُكَ فِي هَذِهِ الْعُطْلَةِ؟

Select all four features, then check.
Common trap Students sometimes prepare a good answer to a different question. Pause for one or two seconds, identify the required time frame and answer the first part immediately.
04

Core strategy

The five-step answer ladder سُلَّمُ الْإِجَابَةِ

Start securely, then climb only as far as the question and your accuracy allow.

1
Answer directlyGive the requested information first.

نَعَمْ، أُحِبُّ الرِّيَاضَةَ.

2
Add a useful detailName, place, frequency, person or preference.

أُفَضِّلُ السِّبَاحَةَ وَكُرَةَ الْقَدَمِ.

3
Explain whyGive a real reason, not an empty phrase.

لِأَنَّهُمَا مُفِيدَتَانِ لِلصِّحَّةِ وَمُمْتِعَتَانِ.

4
Give an exampleShow what your idea looks like in real life.

عَلَى سَبِيلِ الْمِثَالِ، أَذْهَبُ إِلَى الْمَسْبَحِ مَرَّتَيْنِ فِي الْأُسْبُوعِ.

5
Extend purposefullyAdd a past experience, future plan, comparison or consequence.

فِي الْأُسْبُوعِ الْمَاضِي شَارَكْتُ فِي مُسَابَقَةٍ، وَفِي الْمُسْتَقْبَلِ سَأَتَدَرَّبُ أَكْثَرَ.

Secure answer

Direct answer + one clear detail or reason. This is often better than a long, inaccurate response.

Strong extended answer

Direct answer + purposeful development + accurate language across the time frame requested.

Important The ladder is a decision tool, not a fixed script. A simple factual question may need only one or two rungs. An opinion or experience question usually allows more development.
05

Language control

Match the time frame طَابِقِ الزَّمَنَ

Question words and time markers tell you which verb system to use. Keep the first sentence accurate before attempting a more complex extension.

1Past experienceالْمَاضِي

Listen for: فَعَلْتَ، ذَهَبْتَ، زُرْتَ، الْمَاضِي

فِي نِهَايَةِ الْأُسْبُوعِ الْمَاضِي زُرْتُ جَدَّتِي وَسَاعَدْتُهَا فِي الْبَيْتِ.

2Habit or current viewالْحَاضِرُ

Listen for: عَادَةً، كُلَّ يَوْمٍ، مَا رَأْيُكَ، تُفَضِّلُ

عَادَةً أَدْرُسُ بَعْدَ الْمَدْرَسَةِ، وَلَكِنَّنِي أَسْتَرِيحُ قَلِيلًا أَوَّلًا.

3Plan or intentionالْمُسْتَقْبَلُ

Listen for: سَتَفْعَلُ، سَوْفَ، تُرِيدُ أَنْ، الْقَادِمَةِ

فِي الْعُطْلَةِ الْقَادِمَةِ سَأُسَافِرُ مَعَ أُسْرَتِي وَسَنَزُورُ مَدِينَةً تَارِيخِيَّةً.

Can one answer contain more than one time frame?

Yes—when it is relevant and accurate. For example, answer a present question first, then add a brief past example or future intention.

أُحِبُّ السَّفَرَ لِأَنَّنِي أَتَعَرَّفُ إِلَى ثَقَافَاتٍ جَدِيدَةٍ. فِي الصَّيْفِ الْمَاضِي زُرْتُ الْمَغْرِبَ، وَفِي الْعَامِ الْقَادِمِ أُرِيدُ أَنْ أَزُورَ الْأُرْدُنَّ.

What should I do if I am unsure of a difficult tense?

Protect communication. Use a shorter structure you can control, then extend with familiar language. Accuracy and clarity are more useful than a complicated sentence you cannot finish.

06

Fluency tools

Keep the answer moving اِسْتَمِرَّ فِي الْكَلَامِ

Short organising phrases can give you thinking time and make ideas easier to follow. Use them because they serve the meaning—not merely to sound advanced.

Give a view الرَّأْيُ

فِي رَأْيِي · أَعْتَقِدُ أَنَّ · بِالنِّسْبَةِ إِلَيَّ

Explain التَّعْلِيلُ

لِأَنَّ · وَالسَّبَبُ هُوَ أَنَّ · لِذَلِكَ

Give an example الْمِثَالُ

عَلَى سَبِيلِ الْمِثَالِ · مَثَلًا · فِي الْأُسْبُوعِ الْمَاضِي

Add or contrast الْإِضَافَةُ وَالْمُقَابَلَةُ

إِضَافَةً إِلَى ذَلِكَ · وَلَكِنْ · مِنْ نَاحِيَةٍ أُخْرَى

Speak naturally الطَّلَاقَةُ

فِي الْحَقِيقَةِ · عَادَةً · أَحْيَانًا

Finish clearly الْخَاتِمَةُ

لِهَذَا السَّبَبِ · وَفِي النِّهَايَةِ · لِذَلِكَ أُفَضِّلُ

Avoid empty repetition

أُحِبُّ الرِّيَاضَةَ كَثِيرًا، كَثِيرًا، كَثِيرًا.

The extra words do not add meaning.

Add a new layer

أُحِبُّ الرِّيَاضَةَ كَثِيرًا لِأَنَّهَا تُسَاعِدُنِي عَلَى الْمُحَافَظَةِ عَلَى صِحَّتِي.

The reason develops the answer rather than repeating it.

07

Worked models

Hear the difference لَاحِظِ الْفَرْقَ

All three answers are connected to the question, but they show different levels of development and control.

QuestionHobbies

مَا هِوَايَتُكَ الْمُفَضَّلَةُ؟ وَلِمَاذَا؟

BasicRelevant but thin

هِوَايَتِي الْمُفَضَّلَةُ هِيَ الْقِرَاءَةُ.

It answers the first part but does not explain why.

SecureComplete and clear

هِوَايَتِي الْمُفَضَّلَةُ هِيَ الْقِرَاءَةُ لِأَنَّهَا مُفِيدَةٌ وَمُمْتِعَةٌ. أَقْرَأُ رِوَايَةً كُلَّ أُسْبُوعٍ.

It answers both parts and adds a specific habit.

StrongDeveloped and controlled

The speaker answers directly, explains, gives evidence and extends across time without leaving the topic.

Guided application

Build an answer اِبْنِ إِجَابَةً

Choose only the layers that help answer the question. Read the result aloud, then say it again without looking.

Practice questionSchool

مَا الْمَادَّةُ الدِّرَاسِيَّةُ الَّتِي تُفَضِّلُهَا؟ وَلِمَاذَا؟

09

Independent application

Speaking studio اِسْتُودْيُو التَّحَدُّثِ

Prepare with keywords—not a full script. Speak, reflect on one improvement, then try the same prompt again.

Daily lifeYour prompt

مَاذَا تَفْعَلُ بَعْدَ الْمَدْرَسَةِ عَادَةً؟

What do you usually do after school?

Use four to six keywords. Do not write a paragraph to read aloud.

00:45

Optional voice recording

Your recording stays in this browser session and is not uploaded by this page.

Recording is optional. You can practise with the timer only.

Reflect, then retry

10

Final check

Can you build a strong answer? هَلْ أَتْقَنْتَ بِنَاءَ الْإِجَابَةِ؟

Mastery check

Choose the best speaking decision in each situation.

1. What should normally come first?
2. Which phrase adds a reason?
3. What is the best preparation note?
4. Which answer matches مَاذَا فَعَلْتَ أَمْسِ؟
5. What should happen after the first timed attempt?
Your score will appear here.
11

Consolidate

Your next step خُطْوَتُكَ التَّالِيَةُ

Within 24 hours

Choose one studio prompt and complete two 45-second attempts with one improvement between them.

After three days

Answer a new prompt without preparation, using at least three rungs of the answer ladder.

After one week

Return to your hardest prompt and compare the new attempt with your original reflection target.

Remember Confident speaking grows through repeated, successful retrieval. Do not wait for a perfect answer before speaking; build a clear answer, notice one weakness and improve it.
