Core
Recognise the purpose and key information in a short message or notice.
Learn how different text types organise information, then move confidently from short signs and messages to announcements, conversations, emails and connected articles.
Orient
Different texts hide information in different places. A sign gives the key message immediately; an email may explain it gradually; a longer article may develop one idea across several paragraphs.

Predict the information categories: person, action, time, place, reason or opinion.
Scan or listen for exact evidence, especially connectors, negatives and changes.
Follow the development: beginning → change → final action or conclusion.
