1 mark per prompt

The role-play mark scheme, demystified

1Communication (6 marks)

One mark per prompt successfully communicated — up to six prompts.

2Accuracy (4 marks)

An overall score for language accuracy: 4 = consistently accurate, down to 1 = frequent errors that obscure meaning.

3What costs you marks

Not answering the prompt; answering a different question; or using one word where a sentence is needed.

How to score full Communication

Each prompt needs a relevant response with enough language to communicate the information clearly. Perfect grammar is not required for the Communication mark — but a serious error that causes misunderstanding loses that prompt. Give two to three sentences per prompt, delivered confidently.

Task 1 — Health centre (10 marks)

Prompts

  1. صِفْ أَعْرَاضَكَ لِلطَّبِيبِ.
    Describe your symptoms to the doctor.
  2. اسْأَلْ عَنِ العِلَاجِ المُنَاسِبِ.
    Ask about the appropriate treatment.
  3. اطْلُبْ نَصِيحَةً لِلْوِقَايَةِ.
    Ask for prevention advice.
  4. اتَّفِقْ عَلَى مَوْعِدٍ لِلْمُتَابَعَةِ.
    Agree on a follow-up appointment.

Task 2 — Travel agency (10 marks)

Prompts

  1. احْجِزْ رِحْلَةً وَاسْأَلْ عَنِ المَوَاعِيدِ.
    Book a trip and ask about the schedule.
  2. اسْأَلْ عَنْ خِيَارَاتِ الإِقَامَةِ.
    Ask about accommodation options (يُقِيمُ).
  3. اطْلُبْ خِيَارًا صَدِيقًا لِلْبِيئَةِ.
    Request an environmentally friendly option.

Task 4 — Community environment meeting (10 marks)

Prompts

  1. أَبْلِغْ عَنْ مُشْكِلَةٍ بِيئِيَّةٍ مَحَلِّيَّةٍ (المَبْنِيُّ لِلْمَجْهُولِ).
    Report a local environmental problem (passive).
  2. اقْتَرِحْ حُلُولًا (مُسَبِّبُ نَصْبٍ).
    Suggest solutions (subjunctive trigger).
  3. اسْأَلْ عَنِ اللَّوَائِحِ.
    Ask about the regulations.
  4. اطْلُبْ دَعْمَ البَلَدِيَّةِ.
    Request the council's support.
