Recognise the pattern and understand the model verb in a sentence.
Form V often describes an action directed towards the subject, a development or a process. It is especially useful for learning, remembering and personal change.
Learn the meaning before memorising the pattern.
Recognise the pattern and understand the model verb in a sentence.
Use two or three verbs from this family in accurate past and present sentences.
Notice what changes and what stays connected to the root.
Form V combines an initial ت with a doubled middle root consonant. Its present pattern is يَتَفَعَّلُ. Unlike Form II, its present begins with يَـ rather than يُـ in the third-person masculine singular.
| Past | Present | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| تَعَلَّمَ | يَتَعَلَّمُ | to learn |
Read each pair aloud, then use the verbs in meaningful sentences.
| Past | Present | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| تَذَكَّرَ | يَتَذَكَّرُ | to remember |
| تَحَسَّنَ | يَتَحَسَّنُ | to improve |
| تَطَوَّرَ | يَتَطَوَّرُ | to develop |
أَتَعَلَّمُ الْعَرَبِيَّةَ لِأَنَّنِي أُحِبُّ اللُّغَاتِ.
I am learning Arabic because I love languages.
تَحَسَّنَ مُسْتَوَايَ بَعْدَ الْمُمَارَسَةِ.
My level improved after practice.
يَتَذَكَّرُ الطَّالِبُ الْكَلِمَاتِ الْجَدِيدَةَ.
The student remembers the new words.
Move from recognising the pattern to using the language yourself.
Do not treat every initial ت as the feminine or second-person present prefix. In تَعَلَّمَ, it is part of the derived stem.
Keep the stem تَعَلَّمَ while changing the person prefix.
