Past negation: مَا and لَمْ
The two structures share a past meaning but use different verb forms.
مَا + perfect
مَا زُرْنَا الْمَتْحَفَ أَمْسِ.
The past verb keeps its normal conjugation.
لَمْ + jussive imperfect
لَمْ نَزُرِ الْمَتْحَفَ أَمْسِ.
The form after لم is jussive but the meaning is past negative.
Style and emphasis: Both are standard. لَمْ is especially common in formal written MSA and connects the negation to the jussive system.

Present negation with لَا
Use لا for present habits, general facts and contextually current non-actions.
