A

Why this matters لِمَاذَا نُعَبِّرُ عَنِ الْمُسْتَقْبَلِ بِدِقَّةٍ؟

Future control lets candidates discuss plans, ambitions, predictions and promises in connected speaking and writing.

Core

Build affirmative future forms with سـ and سوف.

Develop

Use لن accurately with common singular and plural forms.

Stretch

Explain mood changes and avoid the oversimplified near/distant rule.

Communication target: Sustain a clear future-focused answer with reasons and time expressions.
B

Diagnostic start

Test future markers and لن before studying the system.

🔎 Entry Check

0/6

1. Choose “I will travel”.

2. Choose the correctly written سوف construction.

3. Choose “I will not go”.

4. Choose “they will write”.

5. Choose “they will not write”.

6. Which claim is safest?

1

Build the affirmative future

Future markers precede a correctly conjugated present verb.

MarkerWritingModelTypical use
سَـattachedسَأَدْرُسُ غَدًا.compact, very common future
سَوْفَseparateسَوْفَ أَدْرُسُ غَدًا.explicit future; often more deliberate or formal
present + future timeno markerأُسَافِرُ غَدًا.possible for a clear arrangement; less explicit for learners
Important correction: Do not teach a rigid “سـ = near, سوف = distant” law. Speakers use both flexibly. Teach the spelling, register and communicative clarity first.

🚀 Future Marker Check

0/4

1. Correct attached form

2. Correct separate form

3. “She will study”

4. “We will see”

2

Negate the future with لَنْ

Future negation changes the mood of the following present verb.

SubjectAffirmativeNegative with لَنْ
أَنَاسَأَكْتُبُلَنْ أَكْتُبَ
هِيَسَتَكْتُبُلَنْ تَكْتُبَ
نَحْنُسَنَكْتُبُلَنْ نَكْتُبَ
أَنْتِسَتَكْتُبِينَلَنْ تَكْتُبِي
هُمْسَيَكْتُبُونَلَنْ يَكْتُبُوا
Two visible changes after لَنْ: ordinary singular forms usually show a final fatḥa in fully supported teaching; the five verbs lose their final nūn: تَكْتُبِينَ ← لَنْ تَكْتُبِي, يَكْتُبُونَ ← لَنْ يَكْتُبُوا.

state an intended action

Prediction

سَوْفَ تَتَغَيَّرُ التِّقْنِيَّةُ سَرِيعًا.

commit to an action

Refusal / negative plan

لَنْ أَتَأَخَّرَ مَرَّةً أُخْرَى.

state what will not happen

Extend with reasons: سَأَتَعَلَّمُ الْعَرَبِيَّةَ لِأَنَّنِي أُرِيدُ أَنْ أَعْمَلَ فِي الْخَارِجِ.

Future time expressions

Time phrases contextualise plans and prevent tense ambiguity.

Time phraseModel
Double evidence: A future marker plus a future time phrase makes the intended time frame unmistakable.

Future misconception clinic

A useful correction explains the form, not only the answer.

Rigid distance rule

سَـ لِلْمُسْتَقْبَلِ الْقَرِيبِ فَقَطْ، وَسَوْفَ لِلْبَعِيدِ فَقَطْ

سَـ وَسَوْفَ كِلَاهُمَا لِلْمُسْتَقْبَلِ، وَالسِّيَاقُ يُحَدِّدُ الدَّلَالَةَ

The near/distant contrast is not an absolute rule.

Writing سوف

سَوْفَسَأَدْرُسُ

سَوْفَ أَدْرُسُ

Do not combine both markers or attach سوف.

After لن

لَنْ يَذْهَبُونَ

لَنْ يَذْهَبُوا

The nūn of the five verbs drops.

Time mismatch

سَافَرْتُ غَدًا

سَأُسَافِرُ غَدًا

A future time phrase needs a future-compatible verb form.
