المَبْنِيُّ لِلْمَجْهُولِ فِي الوَصْفِ الثَّقَافِيِّ
One new structure and one choice: form the passive by changing the vowel pattern, and decide between present for the general custom and past for your own memory.
What does the structure communicate?
Which word or ending changes?
What must match the noun or person?
Can you use it with new vocabulary?
Passive verb, nominative subject, بِـ for the means.
Present for a general custom; رَمَضَان is a diptote.
صَامَ is hollow, so the stem becomes صُمْـ.
يُفَعِّلُ → يُفَعَّلُ
The prefix takes a ḍamma and the letter before the ending takes a fatḥa. No extra word is added.
passive verb + nominative subject
What was the object becomes the subject and is nominative. The verb agrees with it in gender.
يَصُومُ / يَتَصَدَّقُ / تُقَامُ
Use the present for what happens each year, and add a hedge where the custom is regional.
صُمْتُ / حَضَرْتُ / زُرْنَا
صَامَ is hollow, so the middle vowel shortens: صُمْتُ، صُمْنَا.
| Active | Passive | Example |
|---|---|---|
Arabic marks the passive inside the word, so the doer disappears entirely. This is why cultural descriptions use it so often: the custom matters more than who performs it.
يَصُومُ المُسْلِمُونَ فِي رَمَضَانَ describes what generally happens. صُمْتُ لِأَوَّلِ مَرَّةٍ عِنْدَمَا كُنْتُ فِي السَّابِعَةِ describes your own experience. Keep the two apart and your writing becomes much clearer.

Each phrase, passive clause and closing detail is accurate on its own, so any three different combinations work.
Fix the case after the passive
Repair the subject of the passive verb.يُزَيَّنُ الشَّارِعَ بِالفَوَانِيسِ.
نَائِبُ الفَاعِلِ ← مَرْفُوعٌAfter a passive verb the affected noun is nominative.
Turn the active into the cultural passive
Rewrite so the custom is described without naming who performs it.يُوَزِّعُ النَّاسُ الحَلْوَى عَلَى الجِيرَانِ.
مَعْلُومٌ ← مَجْهُولٌالحَلْوَى is feminine and becomes the nominative subject of the passive verb.
Qualify the universal claim
Rewrite so the sentence reports where the custom is found.تُزَيَّنُ كُلُّ الشَّوَارِعِ فِي كُلِّ البُلْدَانِ.
أَضِفْ تَحَفُّظًاThe hedge reports the custom accurately instead of claiming it is universal.
