A long ā is inserted after the first root consonant in the past: فَاعَلَ. The present commonly follows يُفَاعِلُ, with the same long vowel.

Notice the relationship: شَارَكَ means to participate or share in an activity. Other Form III verbs, such as سَاعَدَ, have their own lexical meanings; the pattern does not guarantee reciprocity.

Look closely: Compare شَرِكَ / يَشْرَكُ with شَارَكَ / يُشَارِكُ. The long vowel is a recognisable clue, but use the dictionary meaning of the actual verb.
