Transport verbs and the correct preposition
أَفْعَالُ المُوَاصَلَاتِ وَحَرْفُ الجَرِّ الصَّحِيحُ
Transport is not one single pattern. Use بِـ with most motorised transport, عَلَى with bicycles and similar vehicles, and مَشْيًا without a transport noun. The verb also changes according to the person.

How do you (f) go to school?The feminine addressee form ends ـينَ.
Travel by most motorised transport
أَذْهَبُ / أُسَافِرُ + بِـ + وَسِيلَةِ النَّقْلِ
The preposition بِـ joins the definite noun: بِ + الحَافِلَةِ becomes بِالحَافِلَةِ.
أَذْهَبُ إِلَى المَدْرَسَةِ بِالحَافِلَةِ.أُسَافِرُ إِلَى لَنْدَنَ بِالقِطَارِ.نَذْهَبُ إِلَى المَطَارِ بِسَيَّارَةِ أُجْرَةٍ.
Ride on a bicycle or motorbike
أَرْكَبُ / أَذْهَبُ + عَلَى + الدَّرَّاجَةِ
Use عَلَى when the person rides on top of the vehicle.
أَرْكَبُ الدَّرَّاجَةَ.أَذْهَبُ إِلَى الحَدِيقَةِ عَلَى الدَّرَّاجَةِ.
Say “on foot”
أَذْهَبُ / أَسِيرُ + مَشْيًا
مَشْيًا is an adverb. Do not add بِـ or عَلَى before it.
أَذْهَبُ إِلَى المَكْتَبَةِ مَشْيًا.أَسِيرُ مَشْيًا لِمُدَّةِ عَشْرِ دَقَائِقَ.
Ask and answer how someone travels
كَيْفَ تُسَافِرُ؟ / كَيْفَ تَذْهَبُ؟
Use تُـ when addressing one male learner, تُـ...ينَ for one female learner, and أَـ in the first-person answer.
كَيْفَ تَذْهَبُ إِلَى المَدْرَسَةِ؟كَيْفَ تَذْهَبِينَ إِلَى المَدْرَسَةِ؟أَذْهَبُ بِالمِتْرُو.

Learn the transport noun together with its normal preposition; this prevents word-for-word translation from English.
Transport descriptions become stronger when they add destination, frequency, duration and a reason.
