Criteria · weighting · evidence

Mark scheme

Apply these criteria to Question 2 and to the speaking components.

Task completion (TC) — 5 marks

  • The destination is described and the journey or booking is covered with يَحْجِزُ / يُقِيمُ.
  • The experience is narrated with a past-perfect background.
  • Both a Type 1 recommendation and a Type 2 reflection are present; 145-160 words.

Range — 5 marks

  • A Type 1 conditional (إِذَا + past → سَـ) — one mark.
  • A Type 2 conditional (لَوْ + past → لَـ) — a second, separate mark.
  • Past perfect (كَانَ قَدْ), reported speech with a verb other than قَالَ, and a tourism verb (يَسْتَقْطِبُ / يُبْهِرُ).

Accuracy — 5 marks

  • The Type 2 لَـ prefix in the result clause (2 marks — the primary criterion).
  • Past-perfect كَانَ / كَانَتْ agreement (2 marks).
  • Reported speech إِنَّ after قَالَ, أَنَّ after other verbs (1 mark).

Role play — communication and accuracy — 4 marks

  • Communication (2): all four prompts are addressed clearly and relevantly.
  • Accuracy (2): يَحْجِزُ / يُقِيمُ past forms in prompt 3 and the Type 1 recommendation are formed correctly.
  • The destination is described with يَسْتَقْطِبُ or يَتَمَيَّزُ بِـ.

Topic conversation — communication and quality of language — 6 marks

  • Communication (3): answers are developed with point, reason and example.
  • Quality of language (3): the past perfect (Q1), a Type 1 conditional (Q2) and a Type 2 conditional (Q3) all appear and are accurate.
  • Q3 opens with لَوْ; a student who answers with إِذَا is avoiding the conditional — record it and note the missed mark.

Accuracy focus

Choose إِذَا for a realistic condition and لَوْ … لَـ for a hypothetical condition.
